Review: Within the Flames by Skye MacKinnon and Laura Greenwood

Who knows what hides in the fire…

Synopsis

Macey’s allies are assembled, ready to take on the evil that is plaguing their lands. There’s only one problem…one of the Wardens is unable to fight and without him, everything seems lost.

Can Macey find a way to make things right? Or has Mahoun already won the battle before it’s even begun?4

My thoughts

Within The Flames is an intriguing story from Skye MacKinnon and Laura Greenwood. Once again Macey is battling self-doubt, but this time not the demon but herself.

Self-doubt seems to be an overall theme of the Seven Wardens series. This is a typical emotion to have at 18-years-old. Macey is involved in a very complicated relationship with four…or is it five now? I’m trying to count on my fingers. Anyhoo, they are much older than her with a lot of different experiences. Two of the men are so old they cannot even remember their parents or childhood memories.

Then there is the addition of her new friend, Amber and her very serious and angry boyfriend. How do they fit in as wardens and can Amber replace her?

There is also the issue of Macey’s parentage and who becomes ruler of her people. Let’s not forget she just got kidnapped by the guys, then kidnapped again by a villian, and she constantly has to fight a battle against forces she cannot really see. Have I forgotten anything? Smh She is only 18-years-old. It is expected that she would have insecurities and that seems to be the go to for every villain and possible assist. Macey’s battles are usually against herself.

This is not to say that there are no actual action battles in the story. There are. MacKinnon and Greenwood know how to keep Macey and us on our toes. There is also heat which I greatly appreciate.

Time flies when I start reading a book in this series. MacKinnon and Greenwood have me hooked and I cannot wait for the next one.

I received a free copy of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
