Review: Above the Waves by Skye MacKinnon and Laura Greenwood

What truth waits above the waves?

Synopsis

More family secrets, hidden truths, and a budding feud even the prophets couldn’t forsee, puts more on Macey’s plate than ever before. With her men at her side and white hot rage building inside her, she’s never been so determined to see out her duty and defeat the monsters battling at her door.4

My thoughts

Skye MacKinnon and Laura Greenwood surprised me with this one. Above the Waves had a twist that I should have seen, but I did not. I don’t want to give anything away, but I was kind of in the right direction in my last review.

I find it interesting that Macey has been given the answer to the “riddle” twice now and still doesn’t see the forest for the trees. She has been told where the bad guy is and where he comes from, but she still doesn’t get it. Smh MacKinnon and Greenwood speak the truth when it comes to this type of evil. It’s something that can’t be stopped. Not to be a downer, but we have been trying to eradicate racism for centuries, but you can’t stop people from feeling the way they feel. Sometimes they just do.

I loved the building chemistry between Luc and Macey in the last book and the full circle it came to in this book. I love Luc. I think he is one of my favorite characters, but he fits a familiar trope for me and we met him naturally so I think this is why he is a fave. We got to see them meet, argue, fight chemistry, and then have our moment. Sometimes in these types of stories we don’t get that and MacKinnon and Greenwood managed to give us a little bit of everything.

Macey battles inner and outer demons this time again in Above the Waves. Decisions are being made. Lines are being drawn. Changes are happening. I’m loving every minute of it and I can’t wait to read what is going to happen next.

I received a free copy of this book, and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
