Mini-reviews of books about fake-dating by G. Benson and Jae

Who’d Have Thought by G. Benson

Top neurosurgeon Samantha Thomson needs to get married fast and is tightlipped as to why. And with over $200,000 on offer to tie the knot, no questions asked, cash-strapped ER nurse Hayden Pérez isn’t about to demand answers.

The deal is only for a year of marriage, but Hayden’s going into it knowing it will be a nightmare. Sam is complicated, rude, kind of cold, and someone Hayden barely tolerates at work, let alone wants to marry. The hardest part is that Hayden has to convince everyone around them that they’re madly in love and that racing down the aisle together is all they’ve ever wanted. What could possibly go wrong?

My thoughts

Time flies in Who’d Have Thought. G. Benson keeps the story fairly light. There is homophobia involved, but it’s not the main theme as Samantha keeps her reasons for marrying a secret. I like the chemistry between Sam and Hayden. This story is an easy and quick read if you are looking for an escape with a hot doctor and a sexy nurse.

Just for Show by Jae

What happens when an overachieving psychologist with OCD tendencies and an impulsive, out-of-work actress start a fake relationship?

Claire Renshaw thought she had it all: a successful career as a couples therapist, a publishing contract for her self-help book, and a happy relationship. But her perfect world falls apart when her fiancée calls off their engagement. Because of that, even her book deal might be off the table. After all, readers don’t want relationship advice from someone who can’t even make her own relationship work.

So Claire sets out to hire herself a fake fiancée.

Lana Henderson, the actress who shows up to audition for the role, is not exactly Claire’s ideal woman. Her frankness and the messes she leaves everywhere drive Claire up the wall. At least she won’t fall in love with someone like Lana.

But soon, Lana starts to win her over with her big heart, tickle fights, and—gasp!—carbs after six. The longer they pretend to be a love-struck couple, the less fake their kisses feel and the more the lines between reality and role begin to blur.

Once the book contract is signed, will they walk away or is their relationship no longer just for show?

A lesbian romance where role-playing has never been so irresistible.

My thoughts

Face palm. Wow! Claire has some major misconceptions about people for shrink. This makes for excellent repartee as Jae showcases in Just for Show. Claire brings on her own drama…well except for the first chapter which is when it gobsmacks in the face.

I love Lana. Jae gives us a strong heroine that I want to date. She’s curvy, strong, and funny. Lana has a disability from a car accident along with scars that impact her life yet she only lets it affect it so far. Unfortunately, the panic attacks she has no control over. Jae does an excellent job with this part of the storyline.

There is major chemistry between Claire and Lana and Jae lets that steam up the pages. Thank you very much.

Just for Show gives us humor, misunderstandings, and some heat. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Meet the Author

Jae is the author of twenty-three award-winning romances between women. She lives in the sunniest city of Germany, near the French and Swiss borders. The writing bug bit her at the age of eleven.

She used to work as a psychologist but gave up her day job in 2013 to become a full-time writer and a part-time editor. As far as she’s concerned, it’s the best job in the world.

When she’s not writing, she is an avid reader of sapphic books, indulges her ice cream and office supply addictions, and watches way too many crime shows.4
